SUPCO filing period underway

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The filing period for the race for state Supreme Court began Monday. It’s a brief filing brief and it will be a brief campaign for those who choose to run.

The filing period will run until Aug. 21. The election is Nov. 6.

The seat open used to belong to Justice Menis Ketchum who served on the Court for nearly 10 years before deciding to resign last month.

Ketchum was charged last week in a federal information alleging wire fraud in connection with the personal use of a state vehicle and fuel card. He’s scheduled to plead guilty in the near future.

Third District Congressman Evan Jenkins said last week that’s he’s “seriously considering” a state Supreme Court run. A few other potential candidates have filed pre-candidacy papers.
