Sentencing Monday for Beckley man accused of setting fiance on fire

BECKLEY, W.Va. — A man charged with pouring gasoline on his fiance then setting her on fire in front of her children will be sentenced Monday.

In June, Dwayne Lane, 47 of Beckley, entered guilty pleas to charges of first-degree murder along with other charges that included child neglect and domestic battery.

The incident occurred at around 1 a.m. on September 17 at Cox’s Earle Street residence. It started when Lane and Cox got into an altercation.

Lane allegedly poured gasoline on Cox in the front yard before lighting her on fire. Two juveniles who witnessed the crime called 911, saying their mother was set on fire by “Mr. Mike”.

Cox spent several weeks at the West Penn Burn Center in Pittsburgh. She died from her injuries on October 4.

Lane will be sentenced under Raleigh County Circuit Clerk Judge Andrew Dimlich.
