Most of West Virginia school districts to be open by Monday

RAVENSWOOD, W.Va. — Six more county school systems will open their doors to students Friday marking the first day of the school year.

Schools are scheduled to open in Berkeley, Brooke, Grant, Hardy, Pendleton and Putnam counties bringing the total number of school districts open to 42 with six more on the schedule for opening Monday.

Jackson County was one of the districts that opened Thursday. Ravenswood High School Principal Jimmy Fraiser told MetroNews affiliate WMOV Radio it appeared students were glad to be back.

“They may not admit it but they are still excited to be here,” Frasier said.

The first day had the regular hustle and bustle.

“Just running around with all of the excitement of all of the kids being here and the teachers being here and those yellow things going up and down the highway and your emotions get rolling around a little bit. Everything went really well,” Frasier said.

Ravenswood’s faculty, staff and students will have to deal with the issues created by the construction of a new Ravenswood Middle School on the high school’s property. Frasier said they’ll adjust.

“It’s just one of the those things where you need to adapt, you need to overcome and you need to improvise,” he said.
