LOGAN, W.Va. — An impatient driver in Logan County finds himself facing a long list of charges today.
Logan County Sheriff’s Department on Thursday arrested Jeffrey Woods after he drove around stopped traffic in an attempt to bypass fire trucks involved in an accident which caused down power lines.
According to Deputies Woods was ordered to stop and wait by Fire Chief Joe Wimmer who was blocking traffic and awaiting the arrival of AEP to make repairs to the downed live wires. Instead, they accuse Woods of driving forward and struck Wimmer in the legs, putting him onto the hood of a car.
The contact prompted an all points radio call and a deputy was in the same traffic jam and responded. Deputies say Woods actually struck another vehicle trying to get away and refused to exit the car when ordered out by deputies.
He was removed from the vehicle and today faces charges of failure to yield to an Emergency Vehicle. Approaching Improperly, Fleeing- Vehicle, Reckless Driving, Obstructing an officer, Obstructing a firefighter directing traffic, and Obstructing a Firefighter.
Although deputies say Woods passed an initial field sobriety test, they are awaiting the outcome of a toxicology screen run on his blood which was collected afterward at Logan Regional Medical Center.
Chief Wimmer was treated and released for his injuries.
