WVU corrects second payroll error in nine months

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — West Virginia University discovered a payroll error Thursday that they expected to result in some employees not seeing deposits upon waking up Friday morning.

The university announced that the error was corrected Thursday and a file was resubmitted to the state. They expect some employees won’t see their missing deposits first thing Friday morning, but that all deposits should show in bank accounts by the end of the business day. A WVU spokeswoman confirmed all accounts had been paid as of 10 a.m. Friday morning.

A payroll error last year, discovered to be two missing fields in a data file, resulted in thousands of accounts that didn’t receive their direct deposit from payroll until after the conclusion of the Thanksgiving weekend.

WVU has created a process to assist employees in the event they incur overdraft charges, late fees, or other penalties due to the processing error that occurred Thursday.

The university could not confirm what caused Thursday’s initial error.
