Right-of-ways work to begin this fall on Ravenswood power project

RAVENSWOOD, W.Va. — Appalachian Power is set to begin this fall getting right-of-ways for its Ravenswood Area Improvements Project.

The $60 million project includes building around 30 miles of transmission lines in Jackson and Mason counties in order to reduce the chance of extended power outages from occurring.

The line will run from Letart to Ravenswood, then to Ripley.

Appalachian Power spokesman Phil Moye said the project will also include upgrading associated facilities to the line to assure the transmission services are reliable.

“It makes sure that the stability of the transmission grid is enhanced and that we have a system that is robust and is able to provide reliable service for years to come,” Moye told MetroNews affiliate WMOV Radio.

Moye said they plan on talking to property owners in the upcoming months.

“We don’t expect to begin construction until the fall of 2019,” he said. “That’ss probably go on for two years.”

O.R. Colan will serve as the right-of-way contractor.
