CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A Bristol, Virginia nurse practitioner pleaded guilty Tuesday for her alleged involvement at a clinic described as a pill mill.

According to U.S. Attorney Mike Stuart, Teresa Emerson, 59, admitted to aiding and abetting obtaining a controlled substance by fraud.

She admitted to signing a prescription for 145 oxycodone pills for an illegitimate medical purpose. The patient, identified as J.W., had tested positive for drugs she had not been prescribed and negative for drugs she was prescribed.

A prescription for J.W. was filled at a pharmacy in Gilbert, West Virginia.
