Kmart closing another store in WV, only 3 left

CHICAGO, IL — Another Kmart will close in West Virginia in the coming months leaving only three of the retail stores left in the Mountain State.

Sears Holding Company announced plans Thursday to close another 46 stores across the U.S. The list includes the Kmart at Scott Depot in Putnam County.

According to the company, a liquidation sale could begin as early as next Thursday.

The three remaining Kmarts in West Virginia are all in the Charleston area including stores in Kanawha City, a location on Patrick Street on Charleston’s West Side and a location at the Crossings Mall near Elkview which was renovated following the June 2016 flood.

Since 2017, Sears Holding has closed Kmarts in Elkins, Weirton, South Parkersburg, Vienna, Beckley, Martinsburg, Huntington, Clarksburg and St. Albans.

Sears last profitable year was 2010. Since then the company’s sales have dropped 60 percent and it’s lost $11.2 billion.
