Escaped inmate back in custody, apprehended in Barbour County

PHILIPPI, W.Va. — An inmate who escaped during transport Tuesday evening has been apprehended by authorities, according to Harrison County Sheriff Robert Matheny.

Robert Allen Hoover, 37, was in custody of the Harrison County Sheriff’s Department Tuesday, being transported to North Central Regional Jail in Doddridge County for a probation violation when he jumped out of a moving patrol car after kicking off the side glass, Matheny said.

This occurred at around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday on U.S. 50 between the intersections of Sunnyside Road and Stone Valley Road in Doddridge County.

“He was re-captured this morning in Barbour County by state probation officers and Barbour County Sheriff’s Office,” Matheny said.

Hoover is now back in custody at the Tygart Valley Regional Jail in Belington.
