WHEELING, W.Va — Defending state champion Wheeling Central posted another dominating effort against a 2017 playoff team Thursday night. The Maroon Knights cruised to a 55-0 win over Madonna at Bishop Schmitt Field in Wheeling. It was the home opener for Central.
The Maroon Knights jumped out to a 41-0 halftime lead before yielding to their reserve players in the third quarter. Curtis McGhee opened the scoring with a 42-yard touchdown run on Central’s first possession. McGhee would also toss three touchdown passes. Braden Price found the end zone twice (once rushing and once receiving). Payton Marling and Anthony Robbins also reeled in touchdown passes. Jalen Creighton recovered a fumble for a Central score as well.
Wheeling Central has outscored their two opponents by a combined score of 88-0 to open the season. They will host East Hardy on September 7th. Madonna(1-1) will host Vincentian Academy of Pennsylvania on September 8th.
