One injured in Labor Day shooting in Monongalia County

MONONGALIA COUNTY, W.Va. — A person in the River Road area was shot in the back early Monday evening.

The Monongalia County Sheriff’s Office had no supervisors in office who could give details or names Monday evening.

According to scanner traffic – which was limited to shooting-related communications for a time – it took place on Landis Lane, which branches off Booth Run Road and is just west of the River Road Volunteer Fire Department.

The victim was shot with a handgun and was bleeding heavily. Police arrived and were able to capture and detain the suspect. Monongalia EMS crews were able to stop the bleeding.

Officials on site originally discussed landing a medical helicopter at the River Road VFD headquarters to transport the victim to Ruby Memorial Hospital. But after EMS care, it was decided to transport the victim by ambulance.
