Woman awaits sentencing following Cabell County drug death plea

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — A Cabell County woman pleaded guilty Tuesday to causing the 2014 fatal overdose death of another woman.

Misty Dawn Chapman, 31, pleaded guilty to the year-old state law, Drug Delivery Resulting in Death.

Chapman was originally charged with murder following the Feb. 7, 2014 death of Racheal Diane Chaney. Prosecutors said Chapman injected drugs into Chaney’s body.

Tuesday’s plea to the new charge came through a prosecutor’s information agreement.

Cabell County Circuit Judge Alfred Ferguson will have a sentencing range of three to 15 years in prison when he sentences Chapman on Oct. 26.

Chapman remains on home confinement pending sentencing.
