Body of West Virginia woman found at Georgia landfill

BARTOW COUNTY, Ga. — Authorities in Georgia have confirmed the human remains found at a landfill in August are those of a West Virginia woman.

Police in Fairmont previously reported Courtney Nicole Dubois, 20, as missing. Dental records were used to confirm her identity.

A sanitation worker called authorities on Aug. 13 after the woman’s dismembered body was discovered in a compactor contractor.

Investigators reached out to the public for tips about the woman’s identity.

The Fairmont Police Department released the following statement late Wednesday night:

Fairmont PD received an NCIC hit confirmation on our entered missing person, Courtney Dubois, at ~2030 hrs this evening as verified by our police dispatchers at Marion County 911. Courtney has been positively identified by Bartow County CID as the deceased female recovered at a landfill in Bartow County, GA in August.

We are only confirming this due to the fact there have been releases of information concerning this investigation from an out-of-state entity(s). Our agency WILL NOT release information that will be detrimental to this ongoing criminal investigation, in which we do have leads. Our goal of being able to hold person(s) accountable is of utmost importance to us. We are confident that Courtney’s demise was an isolated incident not connected to a random act of violence and that communities…here and in Georgia…need not be unduly worried about their safety.

I am aware that there is a rush to have details and a desire to know what happened, but we are not going to divulge information that could jeopardize this investigation and any release from Georgia authorities up to this point was made prior to them notifying us of a positive ID, and without our consultation. Information from us will be made with proper authority and with regard to justice for Courtney.

Det Brice Fisher is our lead investigator in this matter and can be reached at 304-366-4200 if anyone has knowledge of Courtney’s death or disappearance.
