Deputies identify fatal accident victim in Logan

LOGAN, W.Va. – Logan County authorities have released the names of those involved in a deadly accident Thursday evening on Route 44 near Switzer.

Dead in the crash is Sydney Maynard, 52, of Logan. Investigators say he was operating an ATV on Route 44 near Switzer when he lost control of the machine. The ATV sideswiped one vehicle and crashed into a second. Maynard also had a passenger on the machine.

According to Deputies Maynard sideswiped an oncoming Jeep. He subsequently couldn’t avoid a collision with a pickup truck. Maynard was ejected in the second collision and was dead at the scene. The passenger was treated and released.

The drivers of those other two vehicles were not seriously hurt and were also released after being checked out at Logan Regional medical Center. An accident reconstruction team is working on the investigation.
