Second-half goals carry West Virginia past Cincinnati

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Kevin Morris capitalized on the goalkeeper’s misplay to put West Virginia ahead in the 52nd minute, and Ryan Kellogg extended the margin late during a 2-0 victory over Cincinnati in men’s soccer Tuesday night.

While taking 13 shots, the Mountaineers (4-3) recorded their second shutout of the season and held the Bearcats (1-6) to just two shots.

The victory was West Virginia’s fifth in a row at home against nonconference opponents and its 12th straight when scoring two or more goals.

Mountaineers goalkeeper Steven Tedesky was barely challenged.

“The two saves, I think one was a shot from 40 yards out and the other one was on no angle from the end line, and the defense was fantastic,” said coach Marlon LeBlanc. “That was the No. 1 priority for us, to get the shutout.”
