Nicholas deputies release names in murder-suicide

CRAIGSVILLE, W.Va. — The Nicholas County Sheriff’s Department released more information Saturday in connection with a murder-suicide that happened in Craigsville Friday afternoon.

Shootings occurred Friday near the GoMart in Craigsville.

According to deputies, Vonly York, 69, of Shady Spring, shot and killed his son-in-law Luke Mcelwain during a child custody exchange near the GoMart.

York was still on the scene when deputies arrived. They said they tried to talk him into giving himself up but he turned the gun on himself.

There were no children injured.
