FORT WORTH, Texas — Sh’Nia Gordon scored in the first 25 seconds, the fastest goal in school history, and West Virginia capped a strong weekend by beating No. 21 TCU 2-0 on Sunday.
The Mountaineers (6-2-3, 2-0) showed why they were the preseason Big 12 favorites, winning their fifth straight match two days after winning at No. 24 Texas Tech.
“With the quick turnaround and being on the road, our team showed huge character,” WVU coach Nikki Izzo-Brown said. “TCU is a tough team. For us to come in here and walk away with a 2-0 victory speaks a lot about this team’s character.”
Off the first kick, West Virginia worked the ball wide to Hannah Abraham, who pushed the ball to the end line before sending it into the box. After settling the ball, Gordon worked off one defender, spun and sent her low shot through multiple defenders and toward the far-left pocket for her third goal of the season.
The quickest goal by WVU previously was Heather Kaleiohi scoring in 47 seconds during a 4-0 win at Richmond in 2016.

The Frogs (7-2-2) pushed for the equalizer off a corner kick in the 67th minute. After a flurry of activity inside the 6-yard box. Karitas Tomasdottir’s shot was knocked off the goal line by a defender andh er follow-up shot was just wide.
“We weren’t good enough. Our mentality wasn’t the best and I think that’s a credit to them,” said TCU coach Eric Ball. “It took us a while to get our feet under ourselves and get into the game. Hat’s off to West Virginia for making it uncomfortable for us. It was an opportunity lost.”
The Mountaineers finished with a 16-5 edge in shots and recorded their sixth shutout of the season.
