Water-logged Greenbrier County hit with more flooding

LEWISBURG, W.Va. — Another round of flash flooding struck the southern region of West Virginia Thursday night and early Friday morning.

As has often been the case recently, heavy downpours caused numerous flooded roads in Greenbrier County, where there were reports that Fleshman Hollow and Greenbrier Roads in Rainelle became impassible overnight due to standing water. Portions of Route 60 also were considered to be treacherous because of flooding.

Alderson Elementary School was closed on Friday due to water run-off into the cafeteria. Greenbrier County Homeland Security and Emergency Management Department officials recommended that residents in low-lying areas be prepared to evacuate, if necessary.

Area rivers were expected to crest between 6 pm and 8pm, Friday evening.
