MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — To launch their upcoming season, the West Virginia University Berkeley County Extension Service held an open house Wednesday evening at the Dunn Building on West Stephen Street.
Many extension agents were in attendance from all over the state and there were several booths and displays set up promoting healthy eating and showcasing the 4-H Youth Development Unit.
Michael Withrow, Extension Agent, told MetroNews affiliate WEPM the open house serves as a reminder of what they all have to offer.
“We are a resource that people can come to at any time for help,” said Withrow. “We have health and nutrition experts available.”
Director of Communications and Marketing for WVU Extension Tara Curtis made the trip from Morgantown for the open house. She tells WEPM News there are a lot of positive things happening with the service in the eastern panhandle.
“As you can see from the crowds and the displays, this is a wonderful opportunity to showcase the wonderful work that the extension does,” said Curtis. “Not only in terms of what people think of in traditional agriculture and 4-H but also STEM activities.”
Hands-on activities like the Blender Bikes were popular attractions at the event as well as some state trivia hosted by Extension Associate Professor Sue Flanagan.
