Parkersburg’s Strange commits to Penn State

PARKERSBURG, W.Va. — One of the state’s top recruits over the last decade has settled on his future home.

Parkersburg tight end Brenton Strange offered his commitment to Penn State on Monday night.

Strange posted this message on his Twitter page: “ALL GLORY TO GOD! Thank you to all the universities that have recruited me. BIG thank you to my family for always being my rock. I also want to thank my coaches and all the people who have supported me throughout this process. Ever since I stepped on campus I’ve had a feeling that this was the one. I’m very excited to announce that I am officially commited to .. THE PENN STATE UNIVERSITY #WEARE19”

Strange, a 6-foot-5, 215-pound senior, had offers from 20 Division I schools and gave serious consideration to Ohio State, Notre Dame and Purdue as well.

“Ever since I stepped on campus at Penn State, I felt it was perfect for me, how they used my position and I have a great relationship with the tight ends coach and (head) coach (James) Franklin. I felt it was best for me and my family,” Strange said Monday night.

Strange went to Penn State in July and was on an official visit with the Nittany Lions for last Saturday’s game against Ohio State.

“They took me to the film room, showed me how they use tight ends and it seemed like the right fit,” Strange said.

“It’s one of the best atmospheres in all of sports and something I’ve never experienced before,” he added. “It was just icing on the cake for what I’d already liked about Penn State.”

Strange sat out the first two games of his senior season after pulling his hamstring in a scrimmage. He has played in the Big Reds’ last four contests and caught 29 passes for 537 yards and four touchdowns.

After starting 0-2, Parkersburg has won three of its last four and combined for 98 points over its last two games.

“We’re looking a lot better in practice,” Strange said, “and working our tails off.”
