CARROLL COUNTY, Va. — The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board on Sunday began an investigation of a single engine plane-crash that claimed the life of a Fayette County man in the western end of Virginia during the weekend.
According to the Virginia State Police Department, Ralph C. Young, 65, of Fayetteville was piloting the aircraft en route to Elkin, North Carolina, when his plane was reported missing early Sunday morning, after his family notified authorities that they had lost contact with him. Wreckage from the plane was later located in Carroll County, Virginia.
A police spokesman said Young did not send out a distress call or any other type of emergency communication prior to the crash. His body was found at the crash site. The cause of the incident remains under investigation.
