Southern West Virginia high school football report: Week 8

GAMES TO WATCH

Class AA

No. 9 Shady Spring (5-1) at No. 12 Oak Hill (5-1)

When: Friday at 7 p.m.

Last Week: Shady Spring defeated Wyoming East 35-0, while Oak Hill had its bye week.

Why it’s Important: Both teams need this win to secure a lot of points and get one step closer to locking up a Class AA playoff spot.

Who to Watch for Shady Spring: Haven Chapman, the Woodrow Wilson transfer, rushed for 151 yards on just nine carries last week.

Who to watch for Oak Hill: WR/RB Abraham Farrow is the team’s explosive offensve playmaker, while quarterback Khori Bass is a dual threat.

Class AAA

Woodrow Wilson (2-4) at No. 13 Cabell Midland (3-4)

When: Friday at 7 p.m.

Last Week: Woodrow Wilson lost to South Charleston, 28-23 while Cabell Midland fell short against Belfry, Ky., 36-28

Why it’s Important: Both teams are still fighting for a playoff spot even though each has a losing record.  Both teams could get into the playoffs with 5-5 records, but a loss here will make a non-losing season tough to come by for each squad.

Who to Watch for Woodrow Wilson: Quarterback Peyton Shehan was 13-of-16 passing for 213 yards and led the team in rushing with 61 yards against South Charleston.

Who to watch for Cabell Midland: Running Back Ivan Vaughn is over 1,000 rushing yards through seven games and has been a standout in the team’s wins.

Class A

Summers County (3-3) at Meadow Bridge (2-4)

When: Friday at 7:30 p.m.

Last Week: Summers County defeated Independence, 33-9. Meadow Bridge lost to Webster County, 34-8.

Why It’s Important: Both teams need to win out to have a chance to get into the Class A playoffs. Summers County started the season 0-3 but brings a three-game winning streak into this one.

Who to Watch for Summers County: Running back Marcus McGuire rushed for 100 yards in last week’s win.

Who to Watch for Meadow Bridge: Running back Caleb Richmond, who has had some big games this season including 163 yards on 34 carries last week against Webster County. He also had a team-high 14 tackles last week.

Other Games: Greenbrier East (4-2) at at Ripley (5-1); James Monroe (4-2) at Princeton (0-6); Lord Botetourt, Va.
