PARKERSBURG, W.Va. — The Wood County Republican Executive Committee voted Thursday to appoint former Delegate Tom Azinger to replace the late Frank Deem on the ballot this November.
Deem died Wednesday at the age of 90.
Azinger served in the House of Delegates between 1995 and 2015.
“We look forward to sending him back to Capitol to join the Republican Party’s Comeback Story for West Virginia,” Wood County Republican Party Chairman Rob Cornelius said. “Every vote for our Republican candidates here is just another way to help President Trump make West Virginia and America Great Again.”
According to the county party, appropriate forms will be filed with the West Virginia Secretary of State’s Office and the Wood County Commission on Friday regarding the decision.
The party has also opened up the appointment process for someone to fill Deem’s term. The party has 15 days to interview Republicans interested in the position, with three finalists sent to Gov. Jim Justice to be appointed.
People interested in serving have until Oct. 17 to submit a resume and cover letter to the party at P.O. Box 4737, Parkersburg, West Virginia 26104; hand-delivered to 146 Park Shopping Center, Parkersburg, West Virginia 26101; or emailed to woodcogop@gmail.com.
