Charges filed against driver, parents, after toddler killed in hit-and-run

PRINCETON, W.VA — The Mercer County Sheriff’s Department on Friday announced that charges have been brought against three people, in connection to a hit-and-run incident that claimed the life of a 2-year-old boy in Mercer County in September.  Among those charged were the child’s parents.

A sheriff’s department spokesperson said Michael Dicker was charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death.  The parents were indicted for child neglect resulting in serious bodily injury and child neglect resulting in death.

Dicker was traveling on Route 20 near Littlesburg Road on September 13th, when his vehicle struck the child, who had wandered onto the road and was unattended at the time of the accident.  Investigators later found Dicker’s car a few miles away.

Neither the indictments nor the official accident report specified the circumstances which led to the victim being unattended.
