Pocahontas County magistrate suspended, could face formal charges

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals suspended a Pocahontas County magistrate earlier this month.

Pocahontas County Magistrate Carrie E. Wilfong

According to an order issued by Chief Justice Margaret Workman, probable cause was found to believe that Magistrate Carrie Wilfong had become unable or unwilling to perform her official duties. The matter was brought to the attention of the court in a report from the Judicial Investigation Commission.

Wilfong was the suspended without pay on Oct. 13th, and was prohibited from hearing any civil or criminal matters, or from performing any other judicial functions, while the matter was being settled, pending the filing of formal charges.

Wilfong was elected in Pocahontas County in 2012 and reelected in 2016.
