Wyoming County woman arrested after dog starves to death in her home

BUD, W.Va. — A Wyoming County woman was arrested on Thursday, after allegedly allowing her dog to die of starvation inside her home.

In June, police received a complaint about a dog that had been left without food or water for several days at the home of the suspect, Kayla Ann Adkins.  An animal control officer went to the residence, looked through the window and saw the body of a dog lying on the floor.  The officer said the house appeared to be empty at the time.

On Thursday, police responded to a domestic violence complaint, in which a woman stated that Adkins had struck her in the head and knocked her to the floor.  It was not clear whether the incident was related to the previous complaint against Adkins. Officers said the victim had visible injuries.

Adkins was charged with animal cruelty and domestic violence, and was being held on a $1,500 bond.
