No winners, MegaMillions jackpot expected to climb to $1.6 billion

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — No one matched all six numbers in Friday night’s MegaMillions drawing and now the jackpot is expected to be $1.6 billion for the next drawing set for Tuesday night.

The winning numbers Friday night were 15-23-53-65-70 and the Mega Ball was 7. There was a report of a ticket in California matching five of the six numbers.

Tuesday’s jackpot will represent the largest jackpot ever for a lottery game in the United States. Powerball had a $1.5 billion jackpot in January 2016.

West Virginia Lottery spokesman Randy Burnside said about $2,000 worth of MegaMillions tickets were being sold per minute in West Virginia Friday afternoon.

“We would love to see a West Virginia jackpot winner. That would be awesome,” Burnside said.

Clendenin resident Lisa Carmelia told MetroNews Friday afternoon “everybody is a billionaire who buys a ticket because they are dreaming about it.”

Carmelia said if she won she would build a factory to create jobs but she wouldn’t work there.

“I’d hire somebody to do it because I’d be on a beach or a ski slope somewhere,” Carmelia said.

Charleston resident Bruce King said he doesn’t usually play until the jackpot grows to a large amount. He also has plans for the money.

“I’d give my family each a lot of money so they don’t have to work again and then probably be a philanthropist. Invest it, start a foundation and be a philanthropist,” King said.
