Man jumps to death near Morgantown High; police say it’s not related to school

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Police are attempting to reassure residents that a psychiatric emergency that resulted in the death of one person near Morgantown High School early Tuesday morning had no connection to the school.

Officers responded to a reported psychiatric emergency around 5:33 a.m. Tuesday, finding a distressed person climbing the trees in the area and screaming.

The suspect entered a wooded area near the end of Prairie Avenue when EMS arrived on scene along with area fire units.

The victim was more than 50 feet in the air when he attempted to jump from one tree to another and fell to the ground.

He was pronounced dead at the scene, but detectives are having issues identifying the victim. He had no identification on him at the time of death and was unknown to local authorities.

Anyone with information can contact the Morgantown Police Department at (304) 284-7522.
