BECKLEY, W.Va. — Authorities are now looking for a missing Oak Hill High School teacher near the Raleigh County Memorial Airport.
According to a Friday afternoon Facebook post from the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department, Mark Lilly’s vehicle was found at the airport Friday. Police took a look at airport security video and it showed Lilly taking a bicycle out of his vehicle and going for a ride. Lilly is known to be an avid road cyclist, authorities said.
The Raleigh County Sheriff’s Department began searching common bike routes Friday afternoon. According to the Facebook post, deputies are “currently scanning the area in vehicles and ATVs.”
Lilly was first reported missing after he failed to show up for work on Monday. Lilly was last seen leaving the school in his maroon Toyota Tacoma early Saturday morning. Lilly’s dog and his daily medications were still in his home when officers conducted a search there, but his vehicle was missing. Deputies have been tracking his cell phone, license plate, and bank account, as well as searching the surrounding area.
Lilly, 50, of Fayetteville, was described as 5’8″, 150 lbs., with a mustache and shaved head.
A group of concerned citizens began to organize a search party Thursday.
