MARTINSBURG, W.Va — Martinsburg secured home field advantage throughout the Class AAA playoffs with a resounding 70-0 win over Musselman Saturday night at Cobourn Field.
The Bulldogs (10-0) have won 38 consecutive games and have posted three perfect regular seasons in a row.
Martinsburg scored three touchdowns in each of the first two quarters to build a 42-0 halftime lead. Sophomore running back Naieem Kearney scored three times on the ground.
Elijah Banks found Jarod Bowie on an 18-yard touchdown connection to open the scoring. He later tossed a touchdown pass to Chelo Teneval in the second quarter. Banks also scored on a 1-yard run.
Co-starter at quarterback Grant Harman accounted for three touchdowns with a 1-yard sneak and passes to Bowie and Teddy Marshall. Harman also set up another score with an interception late in the first quarter.
Kevon Warren scored the tenth and final touchdown for the Bulldogs in the fourth quarter.
Martinsburg has outscored their ten opponents this season 575-86. “The kids have stepped up and I am proud of our kids and the program,” said Martinsburg head coach Dave Walker. “The hard work has paid off for them.”
“Nothing surprises me anymore. I have been doing this for 31 years. Kids are resilient. Our kids work hard. The bar is high and the standards are high here. They went out and did the work and so far it has paid off for them,” Walker said.
The Bulldogs will enter their bye week while the Applemen (8-1) will close their regular season at Preston on Friday.
