Cabell County woman sentenced to home confinement following overdose death

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — A Cabell County woman was ordered Friday to spend the next seven-plus years on home confinement as part of her sentence in connection with a 2014 overdose death.

Misty Dawn Chapman, 31, was sentenced in Cabell County Circuit Court following a September guilty plea to a year-old state law, Drug Delivery Resulting in Death. Chapman cut a deal with prosecutor’s to have the murder charge dropped in exchange for the new law. She pleaded guilty as part of an information.

Chapman was originally charged with murder following the Feb. 7, 2014 death of Racheal Diane Chaney. Chapman helped Chaney inject illegal drugs into her body.

Judge Alfred Ferguson sentenced Chapman to 10 years in prison. He gave her credit for both previous time served in jail and the last three-and-half years on home confinement. Ferguson said the remaining time of the 10-year sentence would also be on home confinement.
