Regular Season Curtain Closes Friday Night!

With 51 games scheduled for this Friday night in WV High School Football, the regular season will come to a close for 50 state high school football teams……the reason for the odd number of teams is Keyser will play at Mountain Ridge, Md!  Fifteen other teams finished up the 2018 high school regular season last weekend.

So, for all but 48 teams, the switch on those Friday night lights will be turned off for another year!  And as always, for some of those teams scheduled to tee it up this Friday night it will be an anxious wait after the final horn is sounded to see if they will they will be one of the 48 moving on to the playoffs.  But regardless of playoff implications, we have several exciting games scheduled for this Friday night.

In Class AAA, South Charleston (3-6) will travel to Ona to take on the (5-4) Knights of Cabell Midland, while at University of Charleston Stadium, the (8-1) Capital Cougars will welcome the (4-5) Patriots of George Washington.  It is also a great night for an exciting rivalry game as (7-2) Parkersburg South invades Stadium Field to battle the (5-4) Big Reds of Parkersburg.  Certainly one of the more exciting Class AAA games will find (7-2) Huntington traveling to Spring Valley to battle the (9-0) TimberWolves!

In Class AA, North Marion (4-5) will try and knock the (5-3) Grafton Bearcats out of the playoffs and Robert C. Byrd (7-2) will try and earn a home playoff spot in the first round as they battle (2-7) Philip Barbour.  A loss and RCB is still in the playoffs, however they would then have to travel.  Also in Class AA, it’s another big rival game featuring two teams with totally different records as (9-0) Fairmont Senior battles (0-9) East Fairmont at East West Stadium.

In Class A, three teams will try and end the regular season with an unbeaten record as (9-0) Doddridge County hosts (5-4) Tygarts Valley…..Wheeling Central (9-0) travels to (6-3) Magnolia and Midland Trail (9-0) hosts (2-7) Greenbrier West.  One of the more exciting games in Class A this weekend will take place in Seth, WV this Friday night as the (8-1) Bulldogs of Van will travel to take on the (8-1) Tide of Sherman.  The two teams are located just 19 miles apart and it’s always a battle when they meet!

Be sure to join me and Dave Jecklin this Friday night on GAMENIGHT as we will break down the playoff brackets and have all the scores of the 51 games scheduled!  Talk with you from 9:30 to 12Midnight this Friday night all across the state on over 40 great radio stations and @wvmetronews.com!
