Mercer County man convicted in sex abuse case involving incest

PRINCETON, W.Va. — A Mercer County man was convicted Thursday on 13 counts, in a sexual abuse case involving minors.

Billy Joe Church

Billy Jo Church, 72, of Princeton was charged in 2017 with sexual assault by a parent, guardian or custodian, sexual abuse, and incest.  One of the victims, a female relative of Church, told investigators the abuse occurred from as early as she could recall until she was approximately 11 years old.  According to investigators, the assaults occurred at a residence on Cheesy Creek Road and in a trailer behind Church’s home.

After the verdict was announced, Church’s attorney requested a motion hearing for a new trial.  The motion hearing and sentencing date were scheduled for January 7th.
