BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. — Animal cruelty charges are pending in Morgan County after deputies seized a dozen pit bull dogs Friday which had been abandoned. Eight of the adult dogs were chained up outside the home on Coon Hollow Lane and had no food, water or any supervision. Four pups could be seen through the windows of the home.

Deputies say the home had been vacant for days. A woman who’s name is on the deed could not be located. Deputies say another individual who may be tied to the dogs is in a Baltimore, Maryland jail.

It’s not the first problems for pit bull abuse at the home. Deputies executed a search warrant at that home in 2014 and broke up a dog fighting operation. Fifteen dogs were seized in that incident.

The investigation goes on and the dozen dogs are in the care of the Morgan County Animal Control. During the raid deputies also sized several weapons and equipment used in dog fighting and for training dogs for fighting.
