HUNTINGTON W.Va. — A twitter account associated with Richlands High School in Virginia has reported that former Marshall running back Devon Johnson has passed away at age 25.
The twitter account @BlueTornadoLive, from Johnson’s high school, tweeted: “I don’t know how to even begin to put this into words…but we lost one of the greatest Blues to ever grace this earth tonight. Former @HerdFB and @Panthers great Devon Johnson has passed away far too soon.”

Johnson was a catalyst on the 2014 team that finished 13-1. He rushed for over 1,700 yards and scored 17 rushing touchdowns in that season.
Marshall football and head coach Doc Holliday have released the following statement: “I am shocked and saddened at the news of Devon Johnson’s passing. Devon was a force in our program, both literally and figuratively. Whether on the field or off, his impact was immeasurable and he will be missed by so many at Marshall. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his friends and family.”
