Convicted sex offender caught snooping around woman’s Fayette County home

ANSTEAD, W.Va. — A convicted sex offender was arrested in Fayette County after the sheriff’s department received a complaint of a prowler near a home in Ansted.

When deputies arrived at the residence on Downey Ridge Road, they located and arrested Michael Ashmore, 57, of Ansted.  Ashmore was wanted on an outstanding warrant for failing to register as a sex offender.

Deputies also found two firearms in his possession.  As a convicted felon, Ashmore is prohibited from owning a gun.

He was taken to Southern Regional Jail.
