Mason County man admits to embezzling from hospital

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A Mason County man pleaded guilty to embezzling more than $45,000 from the Pleasant Valley Hospital.

Kevin L. Durst, 62, of Point Pleasant, faces 10 years in prison.

Durst admitted, while serving as a financial analyst at the facility, he secretly wrote checks to benefit himself and to his family’s private cemetery from a dormant hospital account. He also admitted to initiating wire transfers to the IRS out of hospital accounts to make federal tax payments for his family’s cemetery.

The embezzlement occurred between July 20, 2016, and August 22, 2016.

According to U.S. Attorney Mike Stuart, Durst has agreed to pay $46,021.57 in restitution before he is sentenced on Feb. 19.
