Marshall meets Mount St. Mary’s for first time

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Marshall’s men’s basketball team looks for a 3-0 start Wednesday night when the Herd hosts Mount St. Mary’s at the Henderson Center.

The Herd is coming off a 76-72 win over Hofstra on Sunday in which senior guards Jon Elmore and C.J. Burks combined for 53 points.

The Mountaineers last played on Friday, losing at Hofstra 79-61. Mount St. Marys opened the season with a 105-55 loss at North Carolina State.

Wednesday’s game is the first meeting between the Herd and Mountaineers, a member of of the Northeast Conference.

Elmore needs three assists to reach second all-time in MU history, passing current Houston Rockets head coach Mike D’Antoni, who finished with 607 assists in his Marshall career.

With a pair of wins to start the season, the Herd received votes for the second straight week in The Associated Press Top 25 Poll.

After Wednesday’s contest, Marshall will remain home for a game Monday against North Carolina A&T.
