Ice storm impact still being felt in some southeastern counties

BECKLEY, W.Va. — Eleven percent of Appalachian Power customers in Raleigh County remained without service Saturday morning following an ice storm 48 hours earlier.

Parts of Raleigh, Mercer, Summers, Fayette and Greenbrier counties were hit the hardest by the Thursday morning ice.

Appalachian Power hoped to have most all customers with their service restored by Saturday night.

The utility listed outages impacting 8,254 customers Saturday morning with 4,570 in Raleigh County and 1,690 in Mercer County. The outages also still numbered in the hundreds in Fayette (427), Greenbrier (432) and Summers (857) counties.

Previously set restoration targets by Appalachian Power was 4 p.m. Saturday for Raleigh, Fayette, Greenbrier and Summers counties and 10 p.m. Saturday for Mercer County.
