CHARLESTON, W.Va. — National Weather Service meteorologists are tracking a weather system that’s expected to bring freezing rain and treacherous driving conditions to parts of West Virginia overnight.
A Winter Weather Advisory takes effect in the early morning hours on Saturday for Hampshire, Hardy, Grant, Mineral, eastern Tucker and Pendleton Counties. Further south, that advisory goes into effect tonight, beginning at 10 pm, for southeast Raleigh, southeast Fayette, Pocahontas, southeast Randolph, Mercer, Summers, Monroe and Greenbrier counties. Isolated power outages are possible due to tree limbs that may break off from the weight of ice accumulation. Wind gusts up to 25 mph could occur.
Periods of heavy rain, followed by sleet and freezing rain are expected to cause hazardous driving conditions through Saturday morning, with more rain and warmer temperatures by the afternoon.
