UPDATE: ID’s released from fatal Berkeley County DUI crash

Update 11.26.18: 

BUNKER HILL, W.Va. — Authorities have released the names of those involved in a fatal DUI accident in Berkeley County.

Matthew Ostendorf, 33, was driving the vehicle allegedly under the influence and crashed after leaving the roadway and striking a tree Friday afternoon. Travis Ruckman, 43, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Ostendorf attempted to flee the scene following the crash but was later arrested, according to Sheriff Curtis Keller.

The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Department is handling the investigation.

Original 11.24.18: 

BUNKER HILL, W.Va. — One person is dead and another is behind bars following a Friday accident.

Berkeley County deputies responded to the 1800 block of Goldmiller Road in the Bunker Hill area just after 3 in the afternoon. The driver lost control of the vehicle and the vehicle left the roadway before striking a tree.

A passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver allegedly attempted to flee the scene on foot but was later apprehended by deputies.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Identities have yet to be released by investigators.
