Two in stable condition following overnight shooting in Charleston

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Two people are in stable condition following a shooting overnight in Charleston.

Charleston Police say the shooting occurred shortly after 3 a.m. Sunday morning near the 1500 block of Jackson Street on the East End.

One woman and one man sustained gunshot wounds, according to police. The female victim told police she was in the area of the Empty Glass bar when she heard gunshots. She was struck multiple times in the hand and leg areas.

Police say she then retrieved a gun she had in her purse and returned fire.

Authorities say the male victim was shot twice in the back and leg areas.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing by the Charleston Police Department as the unknown suspect is believed by CPD to have shot both victims.

One witness described to police a maroon in color Mazda sedan leaving the area just after the shots were fired.

Anyone with information about the shooting or the identity of the suspect is asked to call the CPD at 304-348-8111.

In addition, Charleston Police have said the reporting of a shooting at CAMC General minutes after this shooting is related to the incident on Jackson St. CPD report said the female victim was located on scene as the male victim left the scene prior to officer arrival and went on his own to the hospital.
