Mason County teacher arrested on sexual abuse charges

MASON COUNTY, W.Va. — A Point Pleasant man who has served as a substitute teacher in Mason County has been arrested on sexual abuse charges.

56-year old Douglas Allen Wetsch was arrested Monday by officers of the Point Pleasant Police Department, according to the chief.

According to Mason County Schools Superintendent Jack Cullen, Wetsch worked at the Mason County School For Success.

The criminal complaint filed alleges that the crime occurred on December 1 as Wetsch is accused of “sexually” touching a male victim in an inappropriate area while performing a sexual act on himself. According to the criminal complaint, there was a witness.

As the investigation continues, officers said the victim told them he did not give Wetsch permission or consent to touch him in a sexual way. Investigators also said that the victim was “incapacitated” from alcohol.

A judge set the Wetsch’s bond at $250,000.
