Two critically injured in big rig crash on Turnpike

GHENT, W.Va. — Two men suffered critical injuries after a tractor-trailer crashed Tuesday near the Ghent toll plaza on Interstate 77.

According to West Virginia State Police, the tractor-trailer was traveling southbound approximately three miles north of the toll booth when it left the roadway and crashed into a wooded area.

The cab separated from the trailer and struck several trees, and a passenger was ejected from the vehicle. He and the driver were the only people in the truck. Both were taken to Raleigh General Hospital.

No other vehicles were involved in the incident, although a witness told investigators a car swerved in front of the truck immediately before the wreck.

The identities of the victims have not been disclosed.
