High water closes multiple roads in southern W.Va.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Recent rainfall, combined with melting snow and ice, have left several roads in southern West Virginia either under water or impassable.

The West Virginia Department of Transportation released an update list of weather-related closures on Dec. 26.  In Fayette County, the list includes Paint Creek Road at Wierwood, WV-39 between Alpha and Belva, and US-60 in front of Danese Christian School.  In Mercer County, the affected roads are Buttermilk Junction, Low Water Road, and Kale Road.  In Raleigh County, WV-3 at Lilly Mountain Road was reported under water.  In Summers County, Willowwood Road is impassable because of flooding-related damage.

The DOT advises motorists not to attempt to drive across any paved road that appears to be submerged, under any circumstances.
