Man in custody following Raleigh County shooting death

DAMERON, W.Va. — A single gunshot wound claimed a man’s life in Raleigh County late Friday night, authorities said.

The shooting occurred at a residence in the community of Dameron at around midnight, according to information released by the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Department.

Deputies arrested Leon Lucas, 63, Saturday morning and charged him with first degree murder. He’s being held in the Southern Regional Jail without bail. The name of the victim hasn’t been released.

The sheriff’s department has released limited information about the shooting.
