Garbage truck driver charged in fatal wreck

BECKLEY, W.Va. — Beckley Police have charged a Fayette County man with negligent homicide after a fatal accident earlier this week.

Jacob Johnson, 40, of Oak Hill turned himself into authorities on Friday. He’s charged after the garbage truck he was operating struck a passenger vehicle on Eisenhower Drive. Killed in the wreck was Terrance Gober, 35, a Marine Corps Recruiter.

Police say the garbage truck had the lift forks in the down position and claim Johnson failed to yield the right-of-way.

Johnson was released on a personal recognizance bond.
