ALUM CREEK, W.Va.¬†—¬†Some Kanawha County firefighters taking a second look at a fire scene found a man’s body in the rubble Thursday afternoon, authorities said.

The blaze was first reported at 2 a.m. Wednesday on Brook Road in the Alum Creek area. The house was believed to be vacant.

Members of the Alum Creek Volunteer Fire Department went back to the scene Thursday after hearing from a person concerned that a relative may have been living there. The man’s body was found behind a collapsed wall.

The state Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating. There was no immediate word on the cause of the blaze.
