CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A Charles Town man is the latest $1 million Powerball winner in West Virginia.
The state Lottery handed a check over last week to Stanis Tabler. He matched five numbers in last Wednesday’s drawing. The only number he missed was the Powerball.
Tabler said he doesn’t play Powerball a lot but is glad he did last week.
“I play the Lottery weekly, but I play Lotto America regularly and do not play Powerball that often,” Tabler said in a news release from the Lottery. “I cashed in my Lotto America tickets and won $20. So, on a whim, I just told the cashier to give me $20 in Powerball tickets and that is how I won.”
Tabler, who is professional driver, said he plans on using some of the money to take his wife on a trip to Hawaii to celebrate their 30th wedding anniversary. The Lottery said it held off the announcement of Tabler’s winning ticket until Monday so he could surprise his wife.
Tabler purchased the ticket at South End BP on Winchester Avenue in Martinsburg. The store will receive $10,000 for selling the ticket.
