CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A bill has been introduced in the House of Delegates that would make it illegal to drive in the left lane of the highway if it prevents the flow of traffic.
House Bill 2355 would make such act a misdemeanor.
Delegate Gary Howell, R-Mineral, put forward the bill on Wednesday. A press release stated “many out-of-state drivers” may not understand the left lane is used for passing.
“This has to be one of the biggest complaints we hear from motorists: why is it that some people just can’t seem to get out of the left lane when other people are trying to pass?” Howell said. “It’s time we crack down on these nuisance drivers.”
The first offense would result in a $100 fine and subsequent offenses would be a fine of $200 each.
The House Technology and Infrastructure Committee will first consider the bill. The House Judiciary Committee will take up the legislation if it passes.
